Gene Garcia graduated from GA Tech (’97 – BEE) and spent many years as a software consultant and developer and director of technical implementations – before finally giving in to the entrepreneurial calling. As co-founder and CTO of Authentica Solutions, Gene architected and directed the build-out and delivery of DataSense and the development of the DataSense engineering department. The DataSense platform as well as the accomplished and talented team have attracted ever-increasing attention, leading to acquisition by BrightBytes in 2017, and then acquisition by Microsoft in 2019. Gene currently works for Microsoft as Principal Architect for the Open Education Analytics initiative which seeks to facilitate and accelerate the growth of reusable assets built around a modern data lakehouse reference architecture for education.
