About Kristy Singletary

I have 15 years of experience working in Georgia’s technical colleges. Currently, I serve as the Dean of General Education at Georgia Northwestern Technical College, an English faculty member at Southern Regional Technical College, and a teaching fellow at the National AI Institute for Adult Learning and Online Education (AI-ALOE). I hold a bachelor’s and master’s degree in English and a doctoral degree in adult education.

I am passionate about access to higher education, and my research focuses on identifying and addressing barriers to student success. Recently, I’ve become an active contributor to research on the ethical integration of AI to enhance learning outcomes in Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) classrooms.

As an educator, administrator, and researcher, I am deeply committed to providing exceptional education for students across northwest and southwest Georgia.

Journey With AI-ALOE

In 2023, I became the chair of the AI Committee at Southern Regional Technical College. In this role, I worked with faculty and staff to develop our college’s response to AI technologies in the classroom. I saw the benefits of AI for both students and faculty, so when SRTC leadership encouraged me to apply for the fellowship, I felt supported and prepared to contribute to research on AI in education in a more dynamic way.

My responsibilities as a fellow have expanded quickly over the last few months. Initially, my goal was to implement AI tools, like Jill Watson and SMART, in my freshman-level English courses at SRTC to examine their impact on student learning and my teaching. I’ve also had the opportunity to move into a dean position at Georgia Northwestern Technical College, where I help support the implementation of AI tools, including Apprentice Tutor. The leadership and distance learning staff at GNTC have done exceptional work to bring these tools to the college, and I am grateful to be part of that effort.

Beyond the Office

I might consider collecting hobbies to be my hobby! My husband and I love to travel—especially to places with too much snow. We hike any chance we get, and since moving to northwest Georgia, we’ve been in awe of the stunning hiking trails in the foothills and mountains. I also enjoy writing, painting, gardening, crafting, and sewing.

Public service is another passion of mine. I have served on the board of the Marguerite Neel Williams Boys and Girls Club and the board of Halcyon Home, Inc., a domestic violence shelter. Most of all, I value time with my family and friends, and I’m incredibly grateful for the supportive community around me.

Words of Inspiration

“Give freely without expectations.”

I’ve been fortunate to receive support from so many people who have helped me reach important milestones in my professional and personal life. Because of that, I work hard to be a source of love and encouragement for my students, family, and friends. My parents always taught me that as we move forward, we should never pull up the ladder behind us. Others are climbing that ladder, too, and I hope we always give freely—with our support and our resources—whenever we are able.
