About Rahul

Hi, I’m Rahul Dass, a postdoctoral fellow and research faculty member at Georgia Tech, specializing in AI-driven personalized, inquiry-based, and explanation-based learning. I lead a seven-member cross-functional team developing Ivy, an interactive AI-driven coach embedded in online videos to support adult learners in procedural skill learning.

Rahul’s Journey with AI-ALOE

I earned a Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Miami, where I researched bias in AI systems. After my Ph.D., I worked at Amazon AWS Responsible AI and Harvard in Tech Seattle, focusing on AI fairness in facial recognition services and misinformation detection.

AI-ALOE has given me the opportunity to expand my AI leadership and project management skills while advancing generative AI-based agentic systems for personalized and skill-based learning in AI and Education.

Until recently, I led the VERA and Ivy teams at DILab and AI-ALOE. Now, I’m focused on automating and scaling Ivy for broader integration across online courses at Georgia Tech and other partner institutions. This includes automating the construction of structured knowledge representations of procedural skills using the Task-Method-Knowledge (TMK) framework and leveraging generative AI to answer learners’ How, Why, and What questions, correct misconceptions, and deepen skill-based learning.

Beyond the Office

I’m a foodie who enjoys cooking and exploring local restaurants. I also enjoy traveling to state and national parks with my wife and toddler—always on the hunt for new waterfalls.
