AI-ALOE researchers from the AI for Intelligent and Resilient Learning (AI2RL) group presented new work on AI in education at the 2025 International Society of the Learning Sciences (ISLS) Annual Meeting, held June 10–13 in Helsinki. The team engaged in community events such as Coffee with Professors and served as hybrid ambassadors.

Exploring AI-Generated Expert Models
Min Kyu Kim presented the paper “Exploring AI-Generated Expert Models: Instructor Interaction and Learner Perceptions in a Physics Class” during the “AI in Higher Education” session.
The study examined human- and AI-generated expert model summaries, as well as hybrid versions created through human-AI collaboration. Results showed that students valued AI-generated summaries for clarity and coherence, while hybrid summaries struck a balance between fluency and accuracy. The findings highlight generative AI’s potential to streamline instructional tasks while underscoring the importance of addressing its limitations.
Generative AI in Nursing Simulations
Jinho Kim presented the poster “Design-Based Research for Scenario-Based, Generative AI-Augmented Simulation in Nursing Education” during the ICLS Poster Session.
The research explored how generative AI can support nursing education by acting as role-playing agents in simulations. While the models performed well in producing role-based dialogue, they revealed challenges in handling common sense reasoning. The study recommended developing clearer evaluation frameworks, diversifying question sets, and refining scenarios to improve authenticity and reliability.
Broader Engagement at ISLS
Beyond formal presentations, AI4OPT members actively participated in mentoring activities and contributed to hybrid conference support.
