July 29, 2024 — Morehouse College is set to debut AI-powered avatars this fall, inspired by Georgia Tech’s “Jill Watson” teaching assistant. These 3-D AI bots will be integrated into five classrooms, including those taught by Professor Ovell Hamilton. The AI bots enable students to receive answers to their course questions at any time. Students will engage with these avatars through a web browser. They can type or ask questions verbally in their native language and receive a spoken response from the avatar, simulating a traditional classroom experience. Privacy remains a priority, with Morris assuring that student interactions won’t be used for broader AI training.
