This presentation will provide an introduction to some of the learning analytics work at the University of Michigan. We will look at two different types of learning analytics projects: My Learning Analytics (MyLA) and MWrite. MyLA is a student-facing learning analytics dashboard that provides students with information about their engagement with course materials and resources, assignments, and grades in a Canvas course. With MyLA not only are analytics provided to students, but faculty researchers also analyze students’ use of MyLA to understand how dashboards support learning. MWrite is a tool that supports writing-to-learn pedagogies through peer review. The MWrite learning analytics project focuses on running sentiment analysis on peer review data to examine and visualize different types of student feedback. In addition to these projects, we will touch on the underlying Unizin Data Platform structure and data governance that enables this work.
