AI-ALOE hosted a webinar showcasing how artificial intelligence is transforming teaching and learning in Georgia’s technical colleges. The event featured presentations from Kristy Singletary and Sean Strickland, both active collaborators in the AI-ALOE research initiative.

Enhancing English Instruction with AI
Kristy Singletary, Dean of General Education at Georgia Northwestern Technical College and an AI-ALOE Teaching Fellow, shared classroom data demonstrating how AI-ALOE tools such as Jill Watson and SMART are enhancing English instruction. Singletary’s presentation highlighted how these tools support deeper conceptual understanding, adaptive learning, and improved student writing while ensuring ethical and secure integration of AI into teaching practices.
Applying AI in Cybersecurity Classrooms
Sean Strickland, a cybersecurity instructor at Wiregrass Georgia Technical College, described how Jill Watson is being used to increase student engagement and instructor efficiency. The tool integrates with Blackboard Ultra to provide 24/7 learning support, real-time responses, and continuity between lectures and labs.
Strickland encouraged students to interact with the tool in the same way they would with him. He reported measurable results, including reduced student hesitation, smoother course progression, and greater learner independence.
Advancing Scalable AI in Education
Both presenters shared that the AI-ALOE tools gave students what they needed to succeed on their own, and that students were not able to use the tools to do their work for them.
Together, the presentations highlighted how AI-ALOE’s research-to-practice partnerships are advancing scalable and effective uses of artificial intelligence in technical education across Georgia.
