During a presentation hosted by the University of Central Florida’s Center for Research in Computer Vision and Institute of Artificial Intelligence, Ashok Goel explored how the NSF AI Institute for Adult Learning and Online Education (AI-ALOE) is using AI to support reskilling, upskilling, and workforce development at scale.
In the talk, Goel shared AI-ALOE’s vision for creating AI-powered learning systems that expand access to high-quality education while remaining grounded in human-centered design and learning science. He highlighted several AI-ALOE innovations, including Jill Watson, an AI teaching assistant that has evolved into a collaborative learning partner; Ivy, a video-based coaching system that helps learners develop procedural skills; and A4L (Architecture for Learning), a scalable data architecture designed to enable AI-enhanced learning across diverse educational environments.
Together, these technologies illustrate how AI can support learners, educators, and organizations as they adapt to the demands of an evolving workforce.
