In his keynote, AI for Reskilling, Upskilling, and Workforce Development, Ashok Goel, Professor of Human-Centered Computing at Georgia Tech and Executive Director of NSF’s National AI Institute for Adult Learning and Online Education (AI-ALOE), explored how AI can support reskilling, upskilling, and workforce development at scale.
Goel shared AI-ALOE’s vision for using AI in education and online learning to support adult learners, with in-person education serving as a benchmark. He also outlined a research approach grounded in human cognition, learning science, and learning engineering to develop responsible AI systems that can expand access to high-quality learning.
The keynote highlighted several AI-ALOE innovations for AI-powered learning and student support, including Jill Watson, an AI teaching assistant evolving into a cognitive partner for student learning; Ivy, an AI video coach for procedural skill learning and workforce training; and A4L, a data architecture designed to enable scalable AI-augmented learning systems.
Together, these systems demonstrate how AI can support workforce transformation by helping people reskill, upskill, and adapt in a rapidly changing, AI-driven economy. Listen to the full keynote here.
